Giveaway Winner Announced for Young Jane Austen: Becoming A Writer
And the winner is...
Book Spotlight + Jane Austen Giveaway!
Author Syrie James was inspired to write Jane Austen's First Love by references in several of Jane Austen's letters to Edward Taylor, heir to Bifrons Park in Kent (pictured above!). You will feel like you are on holiday with Austen as the book looks back to real events and people Jane encountered while visiting the countryside with her sister Cassandra.
Fifteen-year-old Jane Austen dreams of three things: doing something useful, writing something worthy, and falling madly in love. When she visits her brother in Kent to celebrate his engagement to Miss Elizabeth Bridges, Jane meets wealthy, devilishly handsome Edward Taylor, heir to the nearby estate of Bifrons--a fascinating, highly accomplished young man who is truly worthy of Jane's affections. Jane knows a match between her and Edward is unlikely, but every moment she spends with him makes her heart race--and he seems to return her interest.
Much to her displeasure, however, there is another seeking his attention. Jane seeks distraction by attempting to correct the pairings of three other prospective couples. But when her matchmaking aspirations do not all turn out as anticipated, Jane discovers the danger of relying on first impressions.
To celebrate the holidays and the release of Jane Austen's First Love, Syrie is giving away five prize packages filled with an amazing selection of Jane Austen-inspired gifts and books!
To enter the giveaway contest, simply leave a comment on this post.
Increase your chances of winning by visiting multiple stops along the Jane Austen's First Love Holiday Blog Tour! Syrie's unique guest posts will be featured on a variety of subjects, along with fun interviews, spotlights, excerpts, and reviews of the novel. Contest closes at 11:59pm PT, December 21, 2014. Five lucky winners will be drawn at random from all of the comments on the tour, and announced on Syrie’s website on December 22, 2014. The giveaway contest is open to everyone, including international residents.
Good luck to all!

18th-Century Inspired #Giveaway: The Time-Traveling Fashionista at the Palace of Marie Antoinette
I was recently in touch with Bianca Turetsky, the author of the Time-Traveling Fashionista Series. This book series follows 12 year old Louise Lambert who discovers she can visit different periods in history. The second book, The Time-Traveling Fashionista at the Palace of Marie Antoinette, takes Louise back to 18th century France.
This series is a really fun way to introduce the places, the people and the events that occurred in history to young readers. I enjoyed the book from cover to cover and had a few questions for Bianca. Checkout her mini-interview below and enter the giveaway now through Dec. 8th 2014.

Giveaway! Empire Choker
Good morning and happy Friday! I can't think of a better way to kick off a weekend, than with a giveaway! So exciting!!
This giveaway comes to us from Vivien over at Candy Violet. You may recognize her company because I have posted favorites such as her Marie Antoinette inspired collection, and Jane Eyre-esque jackets!
I have always loved her designs and colors so I knew it would be perfect for the Gossip Guide!
A little about Vivien's collection:
Inspired by Antique Georgian jewelry, and using mid 20th century techniques the pieces in this collection are sure to make a statement whatever your quaintrelle style! The pieces are handmade and come in three different colors.
For the giveaway Vivien has selected a handmade Empire Choker in Coral. The choker is one size fits all, and as she pointed out, the coral color is perfect for day and evening wear so you will get the most out of it! The choker also features a removable drop pendant, so you have two styles in one.
When you remove the drop pendant, the choker looks so Madame du Pompadour, don't you agree?
Here's how to enter:
1. Leave me a comment along with your favorite piece from Vivien's collection. You can view all of her jewelry designs here and clothing designs throughout the shop.
2. Giveaway is open to U.S and International Readers.

Giveaway: La Cour Parfumee
During the reign of Louis XV, perfume reached new heights of popularity at court. The term la cour parfumee was used to describe Versailles due everyone’s generous use of the luxury item. Although doctors warned that inhaling too much fragrance was bad for the mind and soul, fragrance clung to bodies, dresses, hair and wafted through hallways.
Preferred fragrances went in and out of popularity over time. The scent of bitter orange blossoms inspired Louis XIII, he loved neroli. Naturally the popularity of any perfume with notes of neroli soared. Unique fragrances were made solely for Louis XIV, and Louis XV’s mistress Madame du Pompadour was a great patron to perfumers.
Marie Antoinette favoured flowers – loved flowers! She had a passion for their beauty but importantly, their fragrance. During her early years at Versailles, the hallways and rooms of the palace were peppered with fresh blooms, constantly cared for and replaced. As you could imagine, it was quite an experience to walk through the hallways, a fragrant experience!
One winner will be drawn to win a 100ml bottle of the fragrance, which is presented in a period style glass bottle with an atomiser spray.
I find the fragrance to have a very nice twist- timeless yet modern enough to wear and not overpowering. Surely the court would have clamoured for it. Winners will be announced on Wednesday June 30, 2010.
